Moles

A mole is a collection of pigment-forming cells that can manifest as lumps or marks on the skin, exhibiting varying shades from dark to pale. While they are generally common and harmless, there is a rare possibility of them being cancerous. Individuals often opt for mole removal due to irritation or for aesthetic reasons.

When you consult with your doctor about a mole, they will assess its type and recommend the most suitable removal method. The procedure typically involves cleaning the area and administering a local anaesthetic to numb the skin. Some moles can be removed through a shaving technique, while others may require a small excision. As part of our standard practice, excised mole samples are routinely sent for tissue testing (histology) to ensure an accurate diagnosis, unless the mole is evidently benign.

In cases where a mole raises suspicion, you may be referred to a dermatologist for a specialist opinion. Your health and well-being are our priority, and we aim to provide comprehensive care throughout the mole removal process.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are diminutive growths that dangle from the skin, typically harmless but potentially bothersome if located on the face or areas prone to catching on clothing. If you find skin tags causing inconvenience, they can be safely removed through methods such as excision or hyfrecation. These procedures are conducted with precision to address the aesthetic or practical concerns associated with skin tags. If you have skin tags that are causing discomfort or affecting your daily activities, discussing removal options with us.

Lipomas

Lipomas are benign, fatty growths that can emerge anywhere on the body, often running in families. These non-cancerous lumps are commonplace and are characterized by a smooth, soft texture beneath the skin, typically exhibiting a round shape.

In instances where a lipoma develops in an inconvenient location or appears prominent, removal through excision is a viable option. This procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, and the skin is skilfully closed with sutures. Following the removal, a follow-up check-up is scheduled to ensure optimal healing and address any post-operative considerations. If you are experiencing concerns related to lipomas, consulting with us, we can provide guidance on the most suitable course of action.

Seborrhoeic Warts

Waxy lumps known as seborrheic keratoses are often found growing on the face, chest, and back. These growths are typically benign and can vary in colour, appearing as light brown, dark, or pale. Removal of seborrheic keratoses can be accomplished through excision or curettage, the latter involving gentle scraping after a local anaesthetic injection. If you have concerns about these warts or wish to explore removal options, consulting with Dr Kajan Kanagasabai can provide insights into the most suitable approach for your specific situation.

Sebaceous Cysts

Epidermoid cysts develop in the upper layer of the skin and are characterized by a cheesy, toothpaste-like material composed of softened keratin. These slow-growing lumps typically feature a central point, known as a punctum. While generally not painful unless infected, epidermoid cysts commonly manifest on the face, neck, chest, and back.

These cysts are benign, indicating they are non-cancerous in nature. They arise when the natural process of skin cell shedding encounters disruptions, leading to the entrapment of skin cells beneath the skin's surface. The epidermal skin cells produce a protein called keratin, and the accumulation of keratin from the trapped cells eventually gives rise to the formation of a cyst. . If you are experiencing concerns related to cysts, consulting with us, we can provide guidance on the most suitable course of action.

Warts and Verrucae

Commonly referred to as plantar warts, verrucae are small, benign lesions induced by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Treatment for verrucae often involves cryotherapy, a method where the warts are treated by freezing them using liquid nitrogen. Cryotherapy aims to eliminate the wart tissue and stimulate the body's immune response to combat the viral infection. If you suspect you have verrucae or are seeking treatment options, consulting with us, we can provide tailored advice and appropriate care.
